Mini Review - Fans Hobby MB-12A Nite Walker

Fans Hobby MB-12A Nite Walker is a Nightbeat flavored re-tool of last years brilliant Athena, with a few aesthetic, and functional changes. Most of the figure still functions the same way, so check out the review of Athena here for the bulk of the info.

This review and photo gallery is based on a review/production sample provided by Fans Hobby.

The Goodies (+)
+
Fantastic color layout, really captures the feeling of G1 Nightbeat and an 80s vibe in general.

+ Highly articulated, just like Athena.

+ Door panels stay tabbed into the back of the legs much better than Athena.

+ Overall tolerances appear to be improved, joints and tabs are tighter and more satisfying.

+ Headmaster tolerance is greatly improved and no longer risks decapitation of the Pilot.

+ Backpack compresses a little more since there is no light bar on the roof.

+ Face swap gimmick is easy to use and effective.

The Baddies (-)
-
The new parts don’t fully mask the feminine design of Athena (not an issue for me, but mileage will vary)

- In comparison to G1 Nightbeat the transformation is backwards. This is the same for Athena.

- The small tabs on the rear of the vehicle are a bit fragile and prone to stress if you are not careful.

Final Thoughts

Yet another high quality, fun release from Fans Hobby. The aesthetic is really the only thing I can see being divisive. If you don’t care for the more feminine look, then this one might not be for you. (You could always consider it Takara Legends Nightbeat if that helps) But otherwise this is an excellent figure that’s a ton of fun. MB-12A Nite Walker comes highly recommended.
